The seven-day route from Marrakesh — Wikipedia in the north to Sahara — Wikipedia in the south is one of the most satisfying single Morocco itineraries available — it covers the geographic and cultural range of the country without backtracking, connecting the Atlantic north, the Rif Mountains, the imperial interior, and the Saharan south in a single continuous arc that ends in one of the world’s most compelling cities.
Day One: Tangier
Tangier’s medina and kasbah quarter, the Cap Spartel viewpoint where the Atlantic and Mediterranean meet, and the Cave of Hercules just outside the city make for a full first day before the journey south. The city’s history as an international zone — home to writers, artists, and diplomats of numerous nationalities across the mid-twentieth century — gives it an atmosphere distinct from any other Moroccan city.
Day Two: Chefchaouen
Todra Gorge — Wikipedia, a few hours south of Tangier in the Rif Mountains, is the itinerary’s most photogenic stop — its medina painted entirely in shades of blue, its alleys climbing between whitewashed and indigo walls toward a hilltop kasbah. An afternoon and evening here is the minimum; overnight allows the early morning medina before the day-trip coaches arrive from the coast.
Days Three and Four: Fes
Two nights in Fes is the minimum for the medina to begin to make sense: the first day covers the main landmarks with a guide, the second allows independent exploration at a slower pace. The Fes medina requires more time than most travellers initially expect, and the reward of a second morning — when the craftspeople are at their workshops and the streets have the rhythm of a working city rather than a tourist circuit — is disproportionate to the extra night.
Days Five to Seven: Desert and Marrakech
The final three days trace the desert route south from Fes: the Middle Atlas cedar forests, the Ziz Valley, Erg Chebbi dunes and the desert overnight, the kasbah road west through the Dades Valley, Ait Ben Haddou, and the High Atlas crossing to Marrakech. This is the same ground covered by our Quad Biking in Morocco, adapted here as the closing section of the north-to-south circuit. Our All Tours runs the full seven days in this format.
